Where to be

Master road positioning to find the best line, whether you're taking a bend, overtaking, or prepping for a turn. Stay safe by keeping clear of hazards and always aiming for the best view ahead.

Where we place ourselves on the road has a significant influence on how safe we are.

The ethos of being an advanced rider is that we take responsibility for our own safety at all times, and do not rely on others doing what we think they will, we take control, so we are safe whatever others do. The best place to be when negotiating a bend on the road is often not the “racing line” as it is on a racetrack, but there are not many 44 ton trucks coming the other way on a racetrack.

Your mentor will demonstrate how, by better selection of the position we adopt and by movement of us and our machines, we can greatly influence or safety margin which in turn can allow us to carry greater speed when we choose to. Position is all about Safety, Stability and View.

Better positioning when looking to overtake can allow better earlier views around, over and even under the target vehicle which can help you to manufacture many more opportunities so is a very powerful tool when looking to crack on.

Where we place ourselves works in two ways. Your Mentor will also demonstrate when adopting an alternative position can help us be seen by others which should help avoid them doing something stupid.
