Navigation of bends is another area that can generate a significant amount of issues when riding a motorcycle. How many times have you heard “the road went left, I didn’t” after someone ends up in a ditch?

Your Mentor will help you to learn how to analyse bends to allow you to get the most fun out them safely. They will get you to question:-

Which way does it go?

How sharp is it?

What is the road surface like?

Which way is the camber?

Can I see what is beyond the bend?

If not, are there any observation links available to assist in analysing the bend?

From all of this information you can start to formulate a plan of how to approach and negotiate every bend safely.

They will demonstrate the limit point method for assessing how to set your speed of approach for every bend, ensuring you are at the correct speed and in the correct gear on entry and being able to maintain speed safely around the bend and identify at what point to get on the gas to accelerate out of the bend.

The one rule for bends is that you should always be able to stop within the distance you can see to be clear on your own side of the road. This takes your safety out of others hands when you nail a bend, even grown men have a little giggle inside their helmet.
